Dry Lightning Labs is live
For nearly twenty years, my office was a golf course. Today I'm opening a different kind of shop.
I was a golf professional, the kind who teaches. I coached players of every level, ran tournaments for companies and charities, worked USGA and SCPGA events, and spent years as a master club fitter. Golf taught me almost everything I know about work: show up early, be patient, learn from the bad rounds, and stay steady when things don't go your way.
But games and computers have been my thing since I was a kid. When my wife and I welcomed our son, I started asking a bigger question: what do I want to build, for him and for us? The answer was software. I went back to school, finished the cybersecurity bootcamp at Fullstack Academy, and started writing code every day.
Bitcade came first
The first thing I built was an arcade. Bitcade is a free collection of fifty-one original arcade games you can play right in your browser: space shooters, racers, a boxing career, puzzles, a rhythm game and a lot more. It has world leaderboards, daily challenges, a weekly tournament and a neon arcade floor you can walk around, with prizes to win.
Somewhere along the way, a side project turned into a studio. Dry Lightning Labs is that studio.
Why "dry lightning"?
Here in Arizona, dry lightning strikes from a desert sky without a drop of rain. All flash, no storm. That's how I want to build: small, focused, fast, and without the drama. You talk to the person writing the code, and the work speaks for itself.
What's next
- Bitcade on Android. The app is on its way to Google Play.
- More games. Bitcade keeps growing, and there are new ideas in the lab.
- Apps and websites for other people. If you've got an idea, I'd love to hear about it.
To my friends, students and colleagues from the golf world: thank you. You shaped who I am. And to my family: this one's for you.
Code. Create. Play. Let's go.
